About this property

The Cabo Surf Hotel is a boutique beach resort located on one of the most privileged beaches in Los Cabos: Acapulquito, also known as "Old Man's". The soothing sounds of rolling waves are heard all around the resort for our guests to enjoy.

The quaint 22 rooms, seafood restaurant (the 7 Seas), and day spa (Sea spa & salon), face an ocean cove and sandy beach with rock formations and light jade green waters. Our ocean front infinity pool and jacuzzi are the perfect spot for watching surfers out front or just gaze on the horizon where the ocean meets the sky.

The hotel architecture resembles a California style beach house with white stucco walls, arches and red tile roofs. Luscious vegetation enhances gardens and surroundings. This property is located near Old Man's. Sometimes called Acapulquito, this slow, semi long, mushy right reefbreak is where you surf with the family. It's also where Mike Doyle runs his surf school. The Cabo Surf Hotel overlooks this wave. If you enjoy cruising on a longboard and sharing waves with a other very happy beginners, then this place is for you.

This property is also located near La Roca. Between Old Man's and Zippers. A large rock marks the lineup of this rocky reefbreak. Mostly a right, sometimes you can sneak in some lefts. If Zippers is too crowded think about paddling over here.

This property is also located near Zippers. A fun, fast, zippy, right hand reef / beach break. This is without a doubt the most famous and one of the best breaks in Cabo. It can get crowded with tourist, ex-pats, and locals who rip. Give a lot of respect at this spot. If you don't really know what you're doing head a couple hundred yards over to Old Man's it's a classic beginner break, where everyone has fun.

rdubach took a Wavecation in November

Surf Rating:

Overall Satisfaction:
Breaks Surfed: Right out front of the hotel
Favorite Break: Directly in front of my room.
Wave/Swell Conditions: 2-4' (nothing huge, but a good clean break)

Thoughts I want to pass on:

I actually got married at the Cabo Surf Hotel and my entire party were surfers. The hotel has an amazing rental program with hundreds of boards in their quiver. You rent for the day and swap out boards as the tides change the wave. Some guys go play a round of golf the day before their wedding, I went surfing with my best friends for about five hours and showed up to the wedding with a slight burn on my face...but all smiles. The wave is a nice point break that curls for about 100 yards and gets steep over the reef at the right tides. So it goes from being a long board style wave during high tide and a short board style during low tide...but she's always breaking so there is always something to catch. The hotel itself was great. Clean, friendly, and right on the water. It sits down off the highway a bit and is out of town so if you are looking for a nice relaxing place to hang out between sessions and eat some good food, I would highly recommend the Cabo Surf Hotel.

Surf Rating:

Overall Satisfaction:
Breaks Surfed: old mans, zipper, the rock
Favorite Break: old mans
Wave/Swell Conditions: 3-4ft South, No Wind

Thoughts I want to pass on:

I went over mother's day week in 2012. I was at the Cabo Surf Hotel for 4 nights and surfed Friday PM thru Tuesday AM, multiple sessions per day. The water was very warm and the air was warm but not humid. The Cabo Surf Hotel pool and hot tub are great amenities - used them a lot. I did not take bus to Cabo for night life trips but some say it is fun. The rooms are very clean and some rooms have hammocks. I rode a 5-8 Super Toy, 5-0 Stretch Mr Buzz, 5-6 DHD Project 15, and rented a 9-2 longboard the first day to scope things out and used it very little. 5 days and 4 nights was too much for me.

The Surf
Old Mans is a fun wave (big or small) and can be crowded at times (with longboarding beginners) and it is a lot like Waikiki. The Rock is very fast, a little dangerous at low tide because it breaks over sharp rocks, and can be competitive mid-day. The East Cape breaks require a rental car but is are empty. Zippers (nearby) is a hollow beach break that can be very competitive. Costa Azul surf shop is nearby (you can walk) and you can get stuff there or rent board right beneath the hotel at Mike Doyle's Surf School. The water can get chilly from upwelling even in the summer.

The Hotel

  • 1) The hotel charges US travelers a $9 per night fee and 14% taxes
  • that is not included in the published rates!
  • 2) The on-site restaurant is very expensive but very convenient.
  • 3) The A/C units are loud so cool your room before bed and then turn it off.
  • 4) Zipper's restaurant nearby is great and less expensive than the hotel.
  • 5) There is a $12 "hotel zone" shuttle that is very direct and hotel
  • charges $45 one way.
  • 6) The Mega supermarket is $10US cab ride away but I walked there a few times.

  • 1) A different way to do this trip might be to rent a car and surf the
  • east cape - but you need S swell.
  • 2) The weekends are more busy
  • 3) I hear it gets VERY hot from July to November, but I was there on
  • 4th of July and it was still OK.
  • 4) There is a medical clinic near Zipper's restaurant
  • 5) Bring a lot of sunblock and rash guards to protect yourself
  • 6) Todos Santos is a great day trip up the coast
  • 7) I ran each day to the estuary and back.

This is a great Wavecation for:

Short Board
Families with Kids
Travelers without a Car
Business Travelers
