About this property

Luxury Boutique Hotel with Perfect Surf and SUP Location
With an incredible surf front location, luxury amenities and a casual elegance Cinco Hotel (formerly the Hotel des Artistes) sets the standard for boutique luxury hotels on the Mexican Riviera.  This Punta de Mita hideaway is located in the heart of Punta de Mita's famous restaurant row steps from a protected cove of clear blue pristine water in the Banderas Bay, and only 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta. This is the ideal year-round destination with over 15,000 flights into Puerto Vallarta, and excellent air service from the US and Canada. Also only about 15 minutes away is the funky surfer town of Sayulita with great restaurants, beautiful homes and the fun and beginner friendly Sayulita point break.

A combination of two and three-bedroom Starfish Suites and CINCO Signature Suites ranging from 1,463 to 2,460 square feet in size, CINCO awaits you, your family, friends and your board—or any combination thereof—with fully-furnished rooms (think island luxe), a complete kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances and state-of-the-art electronics.

Posh digs, no doubt, but this is a place where no one blinks twice if you track sand on the marble floors and put your feet up.

Surfing and SUP at Cinco Hotel
If it's great surf your after, well simply walk out the door and your on the sand with the long, rolling waves of El Anclote at your feet. Grab a longboard or a SUP and enjoy the warm clear waters and long gentle rides perfect for beginner to intermediate surfers. This is one of the world's best spots for a family surf vacation.

If you seek more surfing variety, only a few minutes away are the surf spots of Burros, El Farro, Veneros and more, offering great waves for longboard, shortboard and SUP. Or catch a panga boat right in front of the hotel to explore the more remote reefs around Punta Mita, only a few minutes away by boat.

Other popular surf breaks in the area include La Lancha, El Faro, Burros, the Point and Sayulita's pointbreak. CINCO’s surf Concierge can arrange board rentals and boats to take to you where the waves are best on any given day and time.

The hotel beach, El Anclote is known as a great surf break for learning to surf, with the adjacent cove ideal for Paddle-boarding (SUP). The hotel's pangas are available to take guests out the other five breaks on the peninsula. This setting makes it a rarified location for the celebrations of al things surf and SUP. Whether your an experienced surfer, intermediate, beginner surfer or a family wanting to learn to surf in Mexico, there's a surf break for your skill level here.

For new surfers – or for those wanting some refresher or improvement tips — CINCO offers instruction to surfers of all experience levels and ages, from first time beginners to surfers preparing for contest. We try to keep the ratio of students to instructor at three or less, and may restrict the size of the class based on availability of instructors. The only prerequisites for surf lessons are an ability to swim and a positive attitude. Our instructors are in the water with the students, helping to select and catch waves and providing constant feedback to the students.

We work with a group of instructors who we refer to as The Founding Fathers of Punta de Mita Surfing - Josue, Lalo, Saui, Antonio and Osso. All grew up surfing these local waves, and all now own local surf shops. They not only teach surfing lessons, and work with local kids to keep the Mita surfing tradition alive and well, but many compete in Mexico’s national surf competitions.

Surf Legend Gerry Lopez at Cinco Hotel
Gerry Lopez has chosen the Cinco Hotel for his twice a year SUP and Yoga lifestyle camp. A rare opportunity to spend 3 days on the land and in the water with one of surfing's greatest legends. Cinco Hotel is also home to the Gerry Lopez Aguasports Center which came about as Gerry visited Punta de Mita in October 2010, and became enchanted with the area. He’s been back several times since, and plans to host regular SUP and yoga camps.

The AquaSports Center at CINCO has four sea kayaks and a Hobie cat for guest enjoyment, as well as a broad away of SUP and surf boards available for rent. In addition, we have a Panga  boat with a captain available for your trips to nearby surf breaks, or for whale watching (Dec-May) or exploring the offshore Marietas Islands.

At CINCO, guests are provided with a GoPro camera for their use, during their stay. These waterproof video cameras attach to your board, filming you catching waves and hanging ten! Then, in the evening, bring it to the rooftop Barefoot Bar, and watch yourself starting in your personal surf flick!

Other Activities:  The CINCO Athletic Club and Spa offers a fun, fit club experience located in the heart of restaurant row in Punta de Mita. The on-site amenities include access and full use of CINCO’s state of the art cardio training room, ellipticals, stationary bikes, treadmills, and a full complement of weight training machines and weight station.

Adjacent to the training room is a treatment room for spa services.  Expansive separate men’s and woman’s locker and changing rooms offer wet steam, sauna and jacuzzi, for unwinding after your spa treatment or workout.

This property is located near El Anclote. El Anclote is a wave that can best be described as fun! It needs a decent S to SW swell for the break to get going, but when it does it offers up incredibly long gentle rides. The wave is not particularly fast and is ideal for beginners when it is small, yet intermediate and advanced surfers will have a lot of fun when it reaches the 5 to 6 ft range (it seldom gets any bigger than that). El Anclote is a point break that reels over a rounded rock reef (deep enough to not pose a threat at all) creating a ride that can be long, very long, easily reaching the 500 meters on a good day and if riding it all the way to the shore right by the second jetty. Think of it as Puerto Vallarta's version of Malibu but less crowded. Plenty of Cantinas on the beach to relax and have some food and drink after your surf. You can also catch boats from here to take you to the more remote spots around Punta Mita.

This property is also located near El Faro. This is a high quality right point break very like Malibu or Rincon. The normal afternoon wind blows directly into the barrels making these waves extremely hollow and fun! There are several take off spots, so even if there are others in the water, you can usually find your own wave.

This property is also located near La Lancha. A great break along one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. This is a classic right reef break with a consistent peak followed by a long wall. Somewhat isolated location and distance from the main road help control the crowds.

Thoughts I want to pass on:

Our family stayed here one night prior to a stay at the Four Seasons. This place is a great place for the family, a great spot to surf, SUP or catch a boat to the other surf spots in the area. If you aren't a surfer it is still a great area outside of Puerto Vallarta to vacation. We saw many families having a great time here. Many couples as well. This is definitely not a spring break area or hotel, it was very quiet at night. We stayed in room 303 (3 floors in hotel, plus a rooftop pool and grill) The room had an amazing view of the ocean. It was a family suite, had a kitchen, 2 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a living room. Flat screen TVS in all rooms, granite counter tops in the full kitchen, Safe in closet, Washer dryer, it looked recently remodeled. A/C worked great. Floors were all tiled. It had a great private balcony that we were able to sit out and enjoy the ocean view out front. Surprisingly there were no mosquitoes, probably because it was dry season. They have a great work out facility as well.

This is like Four Seasons treatment but not with the expense. Muchas Gracias!!! Perfect English is spoken by him and the staff. I am a surfer and there is very little information on-line about the surfing situation in this area. This unknown, is part of the fun of going on a family/surf trip, so i will help a little bit to get your started.

The Cinco Hotel is fantastic. If you're looking for a luxury hotel but don't want to be stuck in the Four Seasons compound this is the place to go. The rooms are huge so multiple couples or a family can stay without feeling crowed. The staff, Horatio and Rodrigo, are incredibly helpful. Plus, Horatio surfs and nothing's better than coming back and talking about your day with someone who knows the area. Lastly, the location is just perfect. Right on Anclote, it is within walking distance of almost every restaurant in Punta Mita. This is now one of my favorite hotels period - not just in Mexico. Thanks Wavecation for helping me find it.

Thoughts I want to pass on:

My family loves surf vacations - we went to Hawaii on multiple occasions, did Indonesia, then this last April on spring break took the kids to Hotel Cinco at Punta De Mita.  Wow! We were blown away by the great break, the facility, the service.  The break is right in front of the hotel...  They have a great restaurant and boards available in the hotel.  Boats are right outside on the beach for tours or expeditions to more challenging breaks.  And the manager/concierge was instrumental in anticipating and taking care of our every request.

We are definitely going back to Hotel Cinco - Thank you all!
