Surf

This property is located near Horace Caldwell Pier. A typical Texas fishing pier surf break. Usually mushy and weak, but known to have tubes on occasion. The best side depends on winds and tide. You can paddle out next to the pier, sometimes that helps with the current, but watch for fishing lines. This spot can get good and can hold a big crowd, as there is lots of room to spread out up and down the beach. Strong South East winds followed by a slack wind or better yet, light North West winds can produce some really fun waves. Water gets in the mid 80's in the summer, mid 50's in the winter. You can usually trunk it from March through November.

This property is also located near St. Joe's Island. A very long and lonely paddle across the channel or you have to take the ferry. Can get good, very good, especially when winds are straight out of the South. Not a beginner spot because of the more remote location. Beautiful surroundings, probably looks like most of the Texas coast did 100 years ago.

Surfer Reviews

surfmatt took a Wavecation in August

Surf Rating:
3

Overall Satisfaction:
4
Breaks Surfed: Horace Caldwell
Favorite Break: St. Joe's
Wave/Swell Conditions: Micro, about knee high

Thoughts I want to pass on:

We came down for the grom-roudup contest.  The waves were super small but the water was really clear and glassy, even saw some turtles!  Rode the SUP the whole time, several other guys and gals out on SUP all having a great time.  Stayed in the 8th floor at the Dune's, you can't beat the view.  They have a spot down by the pool to store your board, so as soon as it looks good from the room, just ride down to the lobby, grab your board, and walk about 100 yards to the water.

The best thing about the rooms is that they're angled so you can see the Gulf form anywhere.  I could easily check the surf from bed in the mornings.

This is a great Wavecation for:

Beginners
Intermediates
Longboard
Sup
Fishing
Budget
Non-Surfers
Families with Kids
Girls Getaway
