About this property

Like a castle out of the past perched upon a hill, The Headland Hotel in Newquay is a true gem. Only a 10-minute walk from the center of Newquay, this 4 star accommodation has an unbeatable location perched above the beach with million dollar views. Though an upscale hotel, the Headland has no problems with a wet surfer or sandy dog walking through the lobby on the way back to their room. Open, warm and hospitable without any pretentious airs is how you'll describe the staff at the Headland.

Behind the dramatic red brick facade, the Victorian grandeur continues, welcoming guests and non residents into a relaxed home from home, complete with roaring fires, comfy sofas, contented dogs, an excellent dining experience and panoramic views. The Headland’s 5-star self catering cottages are also utterly unique; here guests can enjoy the space and freedom of their own contemporary cottage by the sea with the added benefits afforded by a luxury hotel right next door. This stylish Victorian hotel also features a 9-hole golf course, surf school and a wonderful sea-view terrace.

Surfing is Therapy is run by Ben Ridding; a British Surfing Association certified coach and lifeguard, who has been teaching surfing to complete beginners and to more advanced levels for over 10 years. Ben has extensive experience as a senior RNLI lifeguard on the local Cornish beaches as well as being a qualified instructor and examiner.

Fistral Beach, in Fistral Bay, is bounded by two promontories, Towan Head to the north and Pentire Point East to the south. The straight sandy beach faces west-northwest onto the Atlantic and is approximately 750 metres long. Backed by steep sand dunes and overlooked by the Headland Hotel, the beach is the venue for major international surfing competitions and a competition suite for judges and competitors has been built at North Fistral along with a surf museum.

The British Surfing Association, Newquay Surf Life Saving Club and the Newquay Boardrider Club are all based at Fistral Beach. The Cribbar, a reef at the north end of the beach, causes waves to break when the swell is high. It is considered to be Cornwall's premier "big wave" location with wave faces as high as 40 feet (12 m).

Surf

This property is located near Fistral Beach. On a good day, one of England's best beach breaks. Waves can be hollow and rides can be long. Summer weekend crowds can be intense. There are multiple sections to surf at the expansive sandy beach bay each with it's own personality and tidal temperament. Catch this spot on a sunny day with light offshores and a good swell and you'll be in paradise!

This property is also located near Towan. This sandy bottomed beach break is prone to closing out, but when a winter swell hits it can be one of the best options around, and can hold some size. When the swell is big enough a nice left will break near the harbor. The wave will work on all tides but low tide producing bigger waves. Towan is very popular with everyone from groms to local rippers, be ready for a crowd.

This property is also located near Tolcarne Wedge. A busy and popular body-boarding wave, this spot works best on a high tide. A clean and powerful wave, best in winter. Big tidal changes result in a massive beach to explore at low tide.
