About this property

Apartments for rent directly in front of the wave at La Saladita
The House of Waves is an older home providing rustic accommodations located on La Saladita Beach only 40 minutes north of the twin Pacific coast resorts of Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo in the state of Guerrero, Mexico and directly in front of one of Mexico's longest and most consistent longboard surfing waves. The wave - a long cobblestone left point break- is known as La Saladita. Other names include, "The Wave Machine" or "Ubilam" (reverse "Malibu"). La Saladita and other nearby beaches also provide miles of excellent beachcombing territory and sandy stretches apt for swimming and boogie-boarding without the congestion of more tourist-oriented destinations.

Lower Floor -  Three separate bedrooms with private bath, kitchenette and living/dining area are available on the lower floor of the House of Waves, with easy access to a covered veranda for outdoor dining, relaxing in a hammock or sitting and contemplating the surf that's right out in front of you. All rooms have fan and the shared living room has A/C.

Upper Floor - Most of the second floor is taken up by the main two bedroom apartment (bedrooms with a/c), and shared kitchen, bath and living space, making it an ideal apartment for small groups. It has a balcony from which guests can get an even better view of the wave action and beach.

The second floor also has another separate air conditioned bedroom facing the mountains, this is our upstairs mountain view unit. This has 2 double size beds in the main room, and also has a lofted space with a low ceiling with a third double size bed. This upper area is ideal for kids, as it has low clearance.

The kitchens are equipped with basic cooking necessities and contain stove, sink, coffee maker and refrigerator. Bathroom installations are clean and modern. Water and light are included in the rental price. Linens are provided and cleaning is performed between 10 am to 1 pm daily.

All bedrooms contain two double beds for accommodating up to 4 people per room.

There are also four bungalows on site that have one bedroom each with two full size beds, kitchen, bathroom, fan and a small porch.

sarah pruett soufl took a Wavecation in September

Surf Rating:

Overall Satisfaction:
Breaks Surfed: La Saladita
Favorite Break: La Saladita
Wave/Swell Conditions: good the first day, then a hurricane hit!

Thoughts I want to pass on:

House of Waves was super nice and there are pretty big refrigerators in the rooms. AC worked great! The point is right out the door; you don't have to walk 30 seconds to be in the water paddling out. Owner Juan was courteous and speaks english well. We had a great visit!

Renting a car is easy and affordable in Mexico, so make a reservation before you go to get a car at the airport. We used Dollar. Using your Visa card you can decline major accident insurance, but you are required to have Personal Liability Insurance. This will save you a lot of money.

Saladita is about 45 minutes away from Zihuatanejo, and the turnoff is Los Llanos. Mexico is rebuilding highway 200 right now so that it is more streamlined and faster, and this is nice. However, the sign for Los Llanos is down for the moment (Sept 2013), so keep an eye out for the turn. The sign for southbound travelers is still up. (If you are ever in the middle of a hurricane and want to go to Zihuatanejo and stay dry there, a hotel I recommend is the Catalina. Very cool old hotel build in the 1950s. No waves there, but no river to bring in the mud and debris. :) )

This is a great Wavecation for:

Families with Kids
Families with Teens
Girls Getaway
