About this property

Your dream of a private beach retreat in Costa Rica, that offers sun, beach, tropical rainforest matched with some of the best relaxation and surfing in the world, just came true. Since opening, hundreds of guests from around the world have chosen Latitude 10 as their Costa Rican "home away from home", because that was the exact philosophy it was built around. A private second home that also welcomes guests with warm personalized service. It was designed to be small with beautifully arranged private casitas, so that guests may purchase the whole resort and enjoy with friends or families, and individual guests and couples can come knowing that they will feel like they have their own room on the beach with every amenity they could wish for, close at hand. Set on natural gardens, the whole eco-resort was created around the principles of sustainability so that you can enjoy this level of luxury while knowing the surrounding wildlife and nature is being protected. No trees were cut down to build Latitude 10 and we will be happy to show you our sustainable initiatives that guide our operations.

Latitude 10 was also created for guests who like to learn more about the local culture. We are minutes by bicycle (which we provide) to Santa Teresa, one of the hippest surf towns in Costa Rica with great local dining and eclectic shopping. While the heart of our resort, the Clubhouse, gathers our guests in a warm open air "great room" for breakfast, afternoon cocktails and general socializing with the team and other guests, exploring Santa Teresa for dinner or even bringing in a chef ensures you experience a true "taste" of Costa Rica and our wonderful fresh, local ingredients.

Wellness is also a priority - whether that means unwinding with a day at the beach with a good book, daily massages and yoga sessions to educational tours that open up the world of the vibrant biodiversity and richness of the rainforest that surrounds the region.

Staying at Latitude 10 is like staying with good friends at their luxury beach house. You will experience personalized service and attention to detail in a relaxed, yet classy atmosphere. Don’t miss out on the famous Santa Teresa surf break, horseback riding excursions, tropical canopy tours, boat and fishing excursions or just a leisurely stroll along one of Costa Rica´s most beautiful white sand beaches where the lush vegetation of the rainforest melts into the Pacific Ocean.   Book Now >

SURF

Set on the beach of one of Costa Rica’s top surfing destinations, Latitude 10 Beach Resort is located in the heart of a rainforest, with the ocean as its front yard, and the sophisticated surfing town of Santa Teresa within easy walking distance.

Due to the variety of uncrowded beaches offering a variety of surfing experiences, Santa Teresa attracts experienced local surfers who don’t mind sharing the waves with the tourists visiting the area. This is an area that respects true surf culture, where the goal is to get the most out of each wave and passionately protect the beaches that provide the experiences.

The beauty of Latitude 10 is that it offers guests a variety of surfing experiences within easy distance. The main surf beach, Playa Carmen is on the border between Malpais and Santa Teresa. It has a good set of sand bars that offer some nice lefts and slightly longer rights. As with all beach breaks, the sand bars can change overnight, so check in with the staff at Latitude 10 for the latest conditions. The break of Playa Carmen is popular with long-boarders but you can always find a few hot short-boarders pulling tail slides, aerials and 360s. Another bonus is that Rip tides and beach breaks at Playa Carmen are less powerful than in other surf spots of the Costa Rican Pacific, making the surf suitable for beginners to learn on.

For the beaches in Latitude 10’s front yard, the waves are bigger and more hollow than Playa Carmen. Generally this area is for experts only and is better with larger swells. Here it is easier to find your own uncrowded peak but surfers are warned to be careful for submerged rocks in the sea. The waves tend to get faster and more consistent as you walk south of Suck Rock towards Playa Santa Teresa, where you will find a broad beach with many classic beach breaks.

Finally, about a kilometer and a half north of Latitude 10 is Playa Hermosa, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and due to the fact that there are very few hotels in the area, it remains a ‘local secret’. Playa Hermosa tends to serve long boarders with its longer lefts and rights from mid low to mid high tides.

The Malpais area has a couple of great spots with longer waves the usually go off with larger swells, one at the point behind Sunset Reef Hotel, adjacent to Cabo Blanco reserve and another near the soccer field in Malpais.

This property is located near Mim's. Mim's (or Back Reef) - just 200 meters around the corner from Roca Mar is this deepwater right-hander that begins to show her stuff at double overhead and above, offering steep take-offs and long, winding walls. When all the stars are in proper alignment, this powerful reef wave can connect all the way through the bowl at Roca Mar, dropping you off breathless and stoked in the shorebreak past Casa Cecilia!

This property is also located near Roca Mar/Suck Rock. A grindy, challenging right hand reef break located at the West end of Playa Santa Teresa. It is also known as "Suck Rock," because the wave jacks up out of deep water, doubling up over a dry reef as it peels across into deeper water. Deep, spitting tubes are the reward for skirting the "Dreaded Spine."

This property is also located near Playa Santa Teresa. A 2km stretch of some of the most consistent beachbreak on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. The beach's Southeast/Northwest orientation makes it ideally exposed to swell angles from below 195 to over 220 degrees; although it breaks best with SSW combo swells. While ostensibly a sandbar beach break, the unique bottom configuration of sand over rock reef gives form to the consistently breaking peaks for which Santa Teresa is famous. These well-groomed sandbars offer peaky, punchy rights and lefts that are just plain fun when it is under head high. But the game changes once the swell goes overhead, offering up juicy outside walls that connect into grinding inside barrels.

This property is also located near Playa Hermosa. Not to be confused with other beaches of the same name, this "beautiful beach" has a wide, smooth, flat sand bottom that makes it ideal for surf lessons and beginners - on the inside. It also offers up fun, if inconsistent beach break on the outside for those lucky enough to be there when it happens! Bring the family and make a day of it - and don't forget to check out the tide pools on either side of the beach!
