About this property

Small Boutique Surf Inn at Mizata Point, El Salvador

Mizata Point Resort was created to provide a comfortable, quiet, safe and relaxing environment for those who are tired of the noisy surf destinations. The owner/manager is an American, who traveled throughout El Salvador looking for accomidations that he was used to . Not being able to find them, he decided to build them himself. Mizata is about 90 minutes from Comalapa, San Salvador's International airport. It is a very small, quaint town, mostly populated by farmers and fishermen, and friendly local surfers. Situated halfway between La Libertad and Sonsonate, it has several breaks, the most famous being the point break, thus the name, Mizata Point.

The surf is very consistent, water is clean and warm and best of all, most of the time you will have uncrowded waves to yourself, unlike Sunzal and Tunco, which these days seem as crowded as most California surfing spots.

Our goal here at Mizata Point Resort is to provide large, comfortable rooms, several with king size beds, all with unobstructed views of the ocean. Each room has its own private terrace, air conditioning, satellite TV, hot water, and internet availability. The rooms, set amongst lush landscaped grounds, are quiet and private. Our infinity edge pool is nestled along the river’s edge, looking out to the famous point break. Our restaurant features a large palapa covered dining area, where a variety of National and International dishes are served at reasonable prices.

Our motto here at Mizata Point Resort is "Where Peace and Tranquility meet great surf. " We invite you to stay with us and see for yourself .

Surf

This property is located near Mizata point. Mizata is the furthest north point break in El Salvador (at least that we'll mention) so if you're driving down from Guatemala you may be itching to stop. While you may see other surfers in the water, the crowds will be nothing like El Zonte further south. The waves work with any swell size and low tide will help avoid the high tide backwash coming off the rocks. There are multiple spots to surf, La Punta (the point), the beach break and La Plancha.

This property is also located near El Zonte. A long powerful right-hand point break.

This property is also located near Sunzal. Known for it's consistency, long rides and fun walls, Sunzal is one of El Salvador's best waves for intermediate surfers and longboarders. The wave peaks far outside and breaks right for a couple hundred yards on a good day. With a south swell you can sometimes get a left breaking on the outside but the right is what people come to surf. The paddle out requires some endurance but surfers are rewarded with long, soft walls offering plenty of opportunity for cutbacks and turns. South or West swell on a lower tide will work best.

Thoughts I want to pass on:

Mizata Point Surf Resort was a hidden gem. The owner and staff were incredibly helpful, the food delicious and the waves pumping. The infinity pool and hammocks were great for non-surfers and the remote location made it unbelievable to get a true Central American experience along with uncrowded overhead surf. Highly recommended.

Wave/Swell Conditions: Clean conditions. Chest to a couple feet overhead

Thoughts I want to pass on:

Waves conditions were amazing during our stay, no need to travel for other surf when we had uncrowded perfect surf right in front of the resort. The owners of the resort really go out of their way to make you welcome and comfortable, service was incredible. The rooms are like new construction, everything was clean and modern, a/c, satellite tv, very comfy king size bed. The on site restuarant was great, from fresh fruit, hamburgers and fries, lemon chicken, fish tacos, we ate it all. I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a beautiful getaway, with amazing surf.

Gr8 stay at Mizatapoint resort for 6 nights. Were there in September -12. Its completly new built. The rooms are large, very very nice beds. Satelite tv. The bathroom is beautiful, and also with warm water. Wonderful family how runs the place. They cook exellent food! Missed refrigiator in the room. In restaurant they were some bugs, should smoke out this. Seen it been done at other places. The pointbreak didn't really work for us, some locals surfed it the first day, stone hazard. Not the reef break either. The beachbreak is fun. A couple of peaks, friendly locals at the beach and in the water. 2-8 surfers in the water max, not crowded at all. Dont leave anything at the beach tho. Mizata is a nice place and im sure in a couple of years there will pop out some more hotels in the area. Good value for the price of the rooms including breakfast.Best place so far in El Salvador. Kalle from Sweden

Breaks Surfed: Mizata, La Bucana, Zunzal
Favorite Break: Mizata
Wave/Swell Conditions: Mornings were epic, afternoons were choppy, evenings still fun ones to pick off

Thoughts I want to pass on:

Mizata Point Resort was an incredible experience. Imagine, sitting on a homey back porch, the sun is going down and lighting up the sky with vibrant pinks/purples, and oranges, the warm breeze is kissing your cheeks, the sound of the ocean is playing in your ears, and the sweet salty air tingles in your nose. Waves are peeling to the left and to the right, and the cold cervesa in your hand is one of the many reminders that this is the sweetest vacation you have ever taken. That is what Mizata Point Resort brings to the table. Not only are you surrounded by the beauty of El Salvador, but you are bathed in the hospitality of George and his family and staff. My boyfriend and I stayed there for 3 nights (of which we had wished would've been longer), but of those 4 days and 3 nights we were in pure heaven. Our days went like this: wake up, surf in solace, eat breakfast, siesta, surf, drink beer, eat lunch, lounge by pool, drink beer, eat dinner, go to sleep and do it all over again. The accommodations are not only comfortable but pure luxury compared to other spots we stayed at. With simple amenities like A/C, TV, and warm water with water pressure, a beach side pool, and delicious food at the snap of your finger, the place simply can't be beat. We absolutely loved our visit and will be sure to return someday.
