About this property
Texas Beach Camping in Port Aransas
IB Magee Beach Park is located on the northern most point of Mustang Island in Port Aransas on the ship channel and consists of 167 acres. There are 75 campsites with water and electric hookups and a dump station. Primitive camping is permitted on the beach. The camper's bathhouse is available to campers using W/E sites and there is a fresh water rinse shower located next to the park office. There is a beach bathhouse with coin operated showers that is open to the general public. Horace Caldwell pier is just a short walk away. St. Joe's is a short distance from here if the beach break or pier are too blown out with a south wind.
Pitch your tent on the beach and you'll have SURF FRONT BEACH CAMPING for under $15 per night! You can't beat that. Camp behind the dunes for a little more privacy and protection from the winds or bring your RV and make yourself at home. Overnight stays in the park are $23 per night for RVs and $20 for tents. That includes a water and electric campsite with dump, water and shower for up to eight people. Primitive beach camping has access to the beach shower house (four quarters for four minutes) and bathrooms on the beach. Please, no glass on the beach. Day parking on the beach from the south jetty to Horace Caldwell Pier is under county jurisdiction and is free (no beach access permit required).
The day use area along the park offers beachfront picnic tables and a protected swim area free of vehicle traffic with lifeguard coverage during Spring Break and summer months. South from that point, a beach parking window sticker is required at a cost of $12 per year. Overnight camping at the jetty also requires a beach camping permit. The Horace Caldwell Gulf of Mexico fishing pier, at Beach Street and the Gulf, is open 24 hours a day from April through September and 12 hours a day in the winter months. The pier also has a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and has many other products for fishing including pole rentals, bait, tackle and souvenirs. The park office is open from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. seven days a week; shower facilities are available to registered campers 24 hours a day.
To make a reservation just contact the park office directly at (361) 749-6117 or (888) 878-9126.

Surf
This property is located near Horace Caldwell Pier. A typical Texas fishing pier surf break. Usually mushy and weak, but known to have tubes on occasion. The best side depends on winds and tide. You can paddle out next to the pier, sometimes that helps with the current, but watch for fishing lines. This spot can get good and can hold a big crowd, as there is lots of room to spread out up and down the beach. Strong South East winds followed by a slack wind or better yet, light North West winds can produce some really fun waves. Water gets in the mid 80's in the summer, mid 50's in the winter. You can usually trunk it from March through November.
This property is also located near St. Joe's Island. A very long and lonely paddle across the channel or you have to take the ferry. Can get good, very good, especially when winds are straight out of the South. Not a beginner spot because of the more remote location. Beautiful surroundings, probably looks like most of the Texas coast did 100 years ago.
