Round House, Barbados (at Soup Bowl)
Bed & Breakfast Inn in Bathsheba, Barbados
About this property
Historic Oceanfront Inn and Restaurant
Located in historic Bathsheba on the rugged east coast of Barbados, Round House has been a popular destination for locals and visitors alike for over 100 years. Built in the early 1800’s, the property offers commanding views of the entire Atlantic coast, a unique scenic environment and an undisturbed stretch of beach studded with natural tidal pools located just a one-minute walk down the sand to "Soup Bowl", one of the world's premier surf spots.
Round House houses a historic inn featuring four architecturally-unique rooms with unparalleled views, and a bustling restaurant and bar serving Continental Caribbean cuisine with indoor and outdoor seating and some of the best views on the island. With its unique history, great food, friendly people and mellow vibe, Round House is a locals' favourite year-round and the spot frequent travelers to the island return to again and again to be greeted like old friends... with its unique hilltop perch providing a breathtaking panorama of Bathsheba and its pounding surf, it is also a “must-do” part of every first-time visitor's Barbados experience.
Built in 1832, the main building houses four guest rooms built entirely of natural coral block and was carefully restored by the present owners in 1994. There's no floor plan here - the guest rooms are housed under the original domed top, giving each room its own unique physical structure and individual feel. Architectural details such as original skylights, deep set windows, lantern cutouts and original staircases remain the highlights of this building over 150 years later. The inn is still family owned and operated, with a familial and laid back vibe that reflects the mellow atmosphere of Bathsheba, from its beach and surrounding villages to the people who live here.
Round House was ranked among the world's top hotels for surfing vacation by Forbes Magazine in 2012! Round House is the only hotel located right on Bathsheba Beach, directly above the surf and sand of the world famous "Soup Bowl" wave. Our location makes this the perfect choice for surf vacations or holidays. Soup Bowl and Parlours are only a two minute walk down the sand. Our restaurant and all the rooms boast direct views of the surf breaks. Throw open your window and check the wave conditions from your room, you can then be in the water a few minutes later... perfection.

This property is located near Soup Bowl. This wave is Barbados' surfing claim to fame. Surfers from around the world travel to this out of the way island for a good surf session at Soup Bowl. Kelly Slater names Soup Bowl as one of his favorite waves anywhere. Best on an incoming medium tide with a North swell, this reefy break can get crowded on good days. Paddle out during smaller waves or less than ideal conditions and you can find some fun, peaky surf almost all to yourself. Soup Bowl is known to change quickly from blown out to glassy at anytime of day, booking a room at a place overlooking the break helps you get on it as soon as conditions improve. Recommended for ntermediate to expert surfers.
