Area Overview
Hemmie's is located in a beautiful and undeveloped stretch of Nicaraguan coastline. In recent years the Gran Pacifica golf resort has been developed but the surf is still very uncrowded. While Hemmie's is a high quality, fast breaking point, for miles on each side of the break are good quality beach breaks. The spread out nature of the beach breaks and breaks like Ranchos make crowds a non-issue. Unlike the coastline further south in Nicaragua which is much more dramatic, with cliffs and rocky outcroppings, the beaches further North are flat and sandy. You don't get as many surf spots with defined take off zones, instead you have "pick your own peak" type of set ups. If you're looking for a family surf vacation, this area is a wonderful option!
As for places to stay around here, there still isn't a whole lot (that's a good thing). The Los Cardones surf lodge is a great options, it's eco-friendly, laid back surf retreat sits right in front of Ranchos surf spot. Los Cardones is part of the Finca del Mar development, which sells individual lots to surfers. A few have built homes here and offer vacation rentals for surfers, such as Casa Sueno, only a stone's throw from Los Cardones. The Gran Pacifica is about a mile down the beach, it has everything from condo rentals to new homes on the golf course. Gran Pacifica and Los Cardones both have amenities such as restaurants and bars than can be used by anyone. Within a short drive of these region are many more hidden waves to explore.
