Siargao Island Overview
Considered the surfing center of the Philippines and home to Cloud 9, one of the Philippines' best surf breaks (and one of the best waves in the world). This small Island enjoys a tropical climate, towering coconut palms, clear waters, vibrant coral reefs and a myriad of small hotels, inns and surf camps for those prone to wander the world's roads less traveled.
With Asia's growing surf population, Philippines surfing (mainliy surfing Siargao) is becoming more popular as it's one of the top surf destinations in the region thanks to world class surf breaks and Filipino hospitality. Cloud 9, the most famous wave in Siargao, is consistently ranked as one of the best surf spots in the world and many pros travel to Siargao Island each year to surf Cloud 9 and test their skills on this powerful reef break. If surfing Cloud 9 is beyond your ability or it's turned into "Crowd 9" there are many other surf spots on Siargao Island, though most require boat access. Rock Island, Cemetery, Pilar Point are some of the more popular Siargao surf breaks. If surfing in Siargao is not your thing the fishing and scuba diving are wonderful as well.
The Island is known for being an inexpensive place to take a tropical surf holiday due to the cheap food and accommodations around the Island. With no shortages of places to stay on Siargao and new beach resorts popping up every year, it's easy to find the perfect accommodations. There are many surf resorts, surf camps and vacation rental villas on the beach and the island interior, which is just a few minutes walk from the beach usually.
The water is warm year round with July - October being the best surf season. The waves here are not as consistent as other Pacific Islands and NE swells will produce the best surf.
