If you're looking for a great place to stay in Santa Catalina, or anywhere in Panama, that is on the beach, laid back, and offers affordable daily and weekly rentals with direct access to great waves then Rancho Estero is your choice!
Rancho Estero is located at the end of the road to Playa Estero and is on the bluff overlooking the beach and the surf. The view from this property is simply amazing.
We are a bit further from town (2 min drive/15 min walk), but Rancho Estero is a very popular choice because of its priceless views, location at the beach and friendly vibe.
This property is located near the beach El Estero. It offers a nice sandy beach and smaller waves breaking both left and right. A great spot for beginner and intermediate surfers.
This property is also located near La Punta Santa Catalina. 'La punta' (The point) is as it says, a point break for more advanced surfers. This spot is a 5-10 min walk away. The waves at Santa Catalina can reach world-class status with one of the heaviest and best-shaped waves in the country. This is the reason surfers started coming to the area! It's a long right and a shorter left break, tall and powerful waves. Best at high and medium tide. Low tide should be left for very experienced surfers with a lot of local knowledge. Very consistent break 80% of the time with the other 20% being knee to head high.
Also known as Playa Estero. El Estero is a mellow, normal to long beach and river mouth break that offers lefts and rights. The friendly waves and sand-bottom are the most welcoming and forgiving for beginner surfers. Longboards are best here. Consistency is year-round with the biggest swell in the summer (rainy season).
